Twice the Impact During the Dog Days of Summer
Our End of Summer 2x Match is underway, but not for long. From now until midnight on Aug. 31, your gift can have double the impact on advancing research and helping provide care and support for those impacted by Alzheimer’s.
Donate NowBenefits of Planned Giving
A planned gift through your will or trust or by beneficiary designations to the Alzheimer's Association can help improve millions of lives and support research for a cure. A generous gift via your estate plan provides:
- Sustained support for research, care and education.
- The ability to plan ahead and grow impact.
- Greater strength in the fight to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia.
Benefits to you
A planned gift creates a lasting legacy you can share with your family and loved ones. Your legacy gift may also provide you with tax savings and increased income, and can be structured for your personal needs and situation.
Tax benefits
- Income tax deduction. For charitable gifts of cash, securities or property made during your lifetime, an income tax deduction may be available. The deduction amount depends on the asset type and your adjusted gross income.
- Capital gains tax avoidance. Donating appreciated assets like stocks, retirement plans or real estate may avoid capital gains tax.
- Estate tax reduction. Gifts made through wills or trusts may reduce your taxable estate, and possibly your state and federal taxes.
- Gift tax benefits. Certain planned gifts may reduce or eliminate gift tax liability.
- IRA qualified charitable distribution (QCD). Donors over the age of 70.5 can donate directly from an IRA without counting the distribution as taxable income, up to annual limits.
Income benefits
- Lifetime income stream. Tools like charitable gift annuities (CGAs) or charitable remainder trusts (CRTs) provide regular income to the donor or other designated beneficiaries.
- Fixed or Variable Payments. CGAs offer fixed payments; CRTs can offer fixed payments or variable payments depending on how they're structured.
Asset management benefits
- Professional management of assets. Trusts and annuities are often managed by professionals, relieving the donor of that responsibility.
- Diversification and risk reduction. Donating appreciated assets and receiving income from a diversified trust portfolio may reduce investment risk.
Estate planning benefits
- Control over asset distribution. You can designate how and when your assets are distributed to your heirs and favorite charities.
- Define revocable and irrevocable plans. You determine the type of legacy plan you wish to create. You can choose to make a gift through your will or trust or choose a gift that pays you secure income for life. The majority of gifts are revocable, but there are a few that are not. Either way, the choice is yours.
- Avoidance of probate. Assets passed through trusts or beneficiary designations bypass probate which may reduce estate administration fees.
We hope you'll consider making the Alzheimer's Association a part of your legacy. If you need assistance, our planned giving team is here to help.
