    Giving Through Life Insurance

Life insurance policies are often used to protect loved ones and provide financial security. It can also offer a flexible and often overlooked way to make a meaningful charitable gift. You can use an existing policy or purchase a new one with the Alzheimer's Association as the beneficiary.

    Benefits of giving life insurance

    • If ownership of the policy is transferred to the Alzheimer's Association, you may be eligible for a tax deduction equivalent to the policy's fair market value at the time of transfer.
    • If you continue paying premiums on a policy owned by the Alzheimer's Association, these payments may qualify as charitable contributions and be tax-deductible.
    • Naming the Alzheimer's Association as the beneficiary may reduce the taxable estate value, potentially lowering your estate taxes.

    How to give life insurance

Infographic showing how making a charitable donation to the Alzheimer's Association by naming us as beneficiary in your life insurance policy may provide tax deductions for you. The infographic organizes the steps of the process in a horizontal row. See this page's text for a full description of giving through your life insurance policy.

There are a few ways to structure a life insurance gift:

    • Name the Alzheimer's Association as beneficiary: Designate us as a full or partial beneficiary of your policy. This is simple and doesn't affect your current finances.
    • Transfer ownership of an existing policy: You can transfer ownership of a paid-up policy or continue paying premiums. You may receive a charitable deduction for the policy's value and any future premiums.
    • Purchase a new policy: Take out a new policy with the Alzheimer's Association as owner and beneficiary. Premiums you pay may be tax-deductible.
