The essentiALZ certification exam is for professional care workers in long-term and community-based care settings who have completed a dementia care training program recognized by the Alzheimer’s Association for incorporating the evidenced-based Dementia Care Practice Recommendations.
essentiALZ certification helps position an organization at the forefront of quality dementia care, can empower staff to handle the complex challenges dementia can bring, and allows individuals living with dementia the opportunity to receive personalized, person-centered, quality care.
Only providers who have trained staff with a recognized training program are eligible to purchase essentiALZ exams. Individuals wishing to purchase a training program and become certified in essentiALZ must purchase essentiALZ — Alzheimer's Association training and certification. The essentiALZ exam is intended for learners 18 years of age or older.
About the essentiALZ exam and certification
- Practical and comprehensive: 45 multiple choice exam questions are grounded in the principles of person-centered care and in accordance with industry standards for question structure, difficulty level and 6th-grade readability.
- Convenient: Staff take their exam online at their convenience. The exam is not timed, and they can return as often as necessary before final submission.
- Recognition: With a passing exam score of 90% or higher, individual staff members will be certified in essentiALZ for two years and receive a personalized certificate.
