Public health progress in Kansas
State, local, territorial and tribal health departments are key partners in implementing a robust public health response to dementia. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is improving brain health throughout the state.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment established the Kansas Dementia Care Network (KDCN), which played a key role in developing the Kansas Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia State Strategic Plan. While implementation is still in its early stages, the initiative aims to raise public awareness and education around Alzheimer's and other dementias.
Working across the levels of prevention
Across the levels of prevention, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment implements public health programs and interventions to address Alzheimer's through:
- Risk reduction: Organized educational sessions and developed public flyers to promote risk reduction for Alzheimer's and other dementia.
- Dementia caregiving: Supported the establishment of the Respite for Alzheimer's and Dementia Program (K-RAD).
