Evans Haynes-KnepperEvan lives in Evansville, Indiana and he is a milling operator at Azteca Milling.

How long have you been involved with the Alzheimer’s Association and in what way(s) do you volunteer?

I have been involved for about one and a half years as an ambassador for Indiana’s 8th congressional district meeting with legislators to help pass crucial legislation for Alzheimer’s funding and research. I also serve as the event chair for Evansville’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

Why do you support the Association? How has Alzheimer’s disease personally affected you?

I lost my grandfather almost two years ago—I saw what Alzheimer’s is and how destructive this disease is. I reached out to the Evansville office wanting to get involved because I did not know how to process the pain nor did I know of any other outlets for information. I wanted to start helping other families like mine and individuals like my grandfather.

What impact do you feel your work with the Alzheimer’s Association has on the community?

I feel it has a high impact. I have been able to reach out and teach others about the effects of Alzheimer’s, as well as, give resources and outlets to families and individuals that are dealing with this disease. I have been able to help persuade our congressman to push legislation through the House of Representatives that provides more funding and research.  I strongly believe everyone who volunteers at the Association has a high impact on their community.

What else are you involved in within your community?

The Alzheimer’s Association is the only thing I’m involved in the community because I spend almost all of my free time to better my outreach.

Why would you encourage others to support the Association?

The Alzheimer’s Association is a non-stop group of individuals that are always working hard for the families and individuals that suffer from this disease. The community outreach that they do is amazing, but the advocacy is my favorite part. There are so many ways for individuals to seek help with the Association. This is truly a great cause!

Is there anything else you would like us to include or know about you?

I hope to one day run for office where I can push even more Alzheimer’s legislation through Congress to help people living with Alzheimer’s.
