Jessica Marie Ryan-DelgadoJessica is a Project Manager for TaylorMade in Evansville, IN

How long have you been involved with the Alzheimer’s Association?

This was Evansville’s 9th Blondes vs. Brunettes game and I’ve had the honor to be involved for 7 years.

In what way(s) do you volunteer?

I participate in the Rivalz event - a football game to raise money for this terrible disease. I speak about the Alzheimer Association to raise awareness and get sponsors from all local businesses to donate. I also help host different events giving 100% of proceeds back.

Why do you support the Association? How has Alzheimer’s disease personally affected you?

I had to watch family members go through this terrible disease as well as some very close family friends and their loved ones.

What impact do you feel your work with the Alzheimer’s Association has on the community?

Since I play in the Rivalz football game every year, the group of girls that participate in this event have a huge impact on the community. I am very competitive, so every year my goal is to not let anyone beat me (from my team or the other team). I feel showing a little bit of competitiveness is great because it helps raise even more money then what some individuals thought they were capable of. I also feel I am making an impact on continuous research that needs to be done and community service for my town.

What else are you involved in within your community?

I am the president of the Corridor of Champions at the Ford Center, President of my University Softball team alumni chapter at Austin Peay State University and I help with activities within the Boys and Girls club of Evansville.

Why would you encourage others to support the Association?

If you have had a loved one or a friend go through this terrible disease you understand. If you have not, go and volunteer somewhere to see what these individuals and their families have to go through. It is heart breaking. I encourage everyone to support and volunteer somewhere. We all have the time and means to support even if it’s just for 10 minutes or five dollars every year. Something is better than nothing.

Is there anything else you would like us to include or know about you?

I am a huge family girl and I moved back home to the Evansville community with my husband Casey Delgado after college because I love it here. My wonderful parents have shown me to give back to the community and I have learned from them. I would also like to end with…. The more we give, the happier we feel. You are doing good for others and the community when you volunteer, which provides a natural sense of accomplishment. Your role as a volunteer can also give you a sense of pride and identity. Volunteering is about giving, contributing and helping other individuals and the community. Volunteering means working with others to make a meaningful contribution to a better community.
