Tammy StevensTammy Stevens lives in Flatwoods, Kentucky and is the Team Captain for the Ashland Walk to End Alzheimer’s team Denver’s Voices. They have been walking for four years and her team has raised enough money to make them one of our top friends and family teams!

What types of fundraising does your team do?

Our funding efforts include hotdog sales and asking friends and co-workers for donations while sharing our experiences with the disease and the Alzheimer’s Association.

Why do you support the Association? How has Alzheimer’s disease personally affected you?

We support the fight to end Alzheimer’s because of the impact the disease has had on our family. We lost my mom’s twin brother, so our team is named after my uncle, Denver Yates. He was 1 of 11 children so our team is made up of about 50 family members across 4 generations. In one way or another, we all were and still are touched by his journey with Alzheimer’s.

What impact do you feel your participation in the Walk has on the community?

We hope that the community can see from the large (family) team that we have that this fight takes everyone to make a difference.

Why would you encourage others to support the Walk?

We would love for more people who have and have not been affected by Alzheimer’s to participate. It would give them the chance to meet and talk with caregivers, family members, and friends that have been affected by the disease. People that have not been touched by Alzheimer’s could learn more about the disease and its effects on the entire community.
