    ALZ Health Equity Coalitions

ALZ Health Equity Coalitions is a grassroots effort working with local leaders to improve dementia diagnosis, care and education in under-resourced communities. These coalitions work with trusted local partners to build awareness, expand access to diagnosis and treatment, and ensure care reflects each community’s culture, values and lived experience.

Too many people still face an uphill battle getting an Alzheimer’s or dementia diagnosis, especially in communities that have long gone without the support they deserve. These gaps delay treatment, increase stress for caregivers, lead to misdiagnoses and make outcomes worse.

That’s why the Alzheimer’s Association launched the ALZ Health Equity Coalitions — a national effort grounded in one idea: real change starts local.

    Coalition goals

Each coalition brings together trusted community voices including leaders, advocates and grassroots partners who know the people they serve. Together they break down barriers, raise awareness and deliver resources to local communities.

Coalitions focus on three core goals:
    • Raise awareness and deliver important resources where they are needed.
    • Expand access to care and culturally meaningful support.
    • Center diverse voices in shaping equity strategies at every level.
Through long-term partnerships and community participatory outreach, these coalitions are working to make Alzheimer’s and dementia care more equitable; because everyone deserves a fair shot at quality care and, one day, a cure.

    Unforgettable

“Unforgettable” is a live stage play that’s reaching thousands with a powerful story about the impact of Alzheimer’s on a Black family. It’s just one example of how local coalitions are raising awareness and driving change in their communities.

Members of the ALZ Health Equity Coalitions don’t just show up. They lead. They work closely with local chapters, co-create programs and help shape the day-to-day strategies that move this work forward. Their input isn’t symbolic, it’s foundational.
