Dean Brenner is chair of the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC’s) Technological Advisory Council, a group which is leading the FCC’s early planning for 6G. For the past 18 years, he was senior vice president, Spectrum Strategy & Technology Policy for Qualcomm Incorporated. He directed Qualcomm’s global spectrum strategy and technology policy initiatives. He represented Qualcomm before the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and other United States and Canadian agencies responsible for spectrum and technology policy, and he oversaw Qualcomm’s spectrum and technology policy work elsewhere around the world. He led Qualcomm’s successful efforts to win regulatory approval and spectrum around the world for new wireless technologies, including those using 3G, 4G, and 5G. Brenner has testified five times at U.S. Senate and House of Representatives committee hearings and has spoken at spectrum policy conferences in the United States, Canada, South Korea, China, Belgium, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Spain and Israel.
Brenner received his A.B. degree, magna cum laude with distinction in public policy studies, from Duke University and his J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University. He is a member of the Alzheimer’s Association National Capital Area chapter board. He has advocated before federal policymakers on Alzheimer’s-related issues numerous times and he has testified nine times before the Washington, D.C. council on local Alzheimer’s-related legislation. He also created and led Qualcomm’s initiatives to support employees with a connection to Alzheimer’s.
Brenner was elected to the board of directors in 2020 and is currently board treasurer.
