Meet our national partners:

100 Black Men of America (The 100)""

Founded in 1963 in New York City, 100 Black Men of America (The 100) is recognized as the nation’s top African American-led mentoring organization. Currently, the organization has over 10,000 members impacting more than 125,000 underserved, underrepresented minority youth annually.

The partnership’s initial work will focus on three primary objectives:

  • Increasing concern and awareness of Alzheimer's and other dementia by educating local communities about brain health and cognitive aging, changes experienced by an individual that should be discussed with a health professional and benefits of early detection and diagnosis.
  • Providing care and support through Alzheimer's Association programming, including promotion of the Association's free 24/7 Helpline that offers families disease-related information and referrals to local resources and care consultation.
  • Increasing community engagement in Alzheimer's and dementia research to ensure more equitable representation of Black Americans in clinical trials and disease research.

African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME)

The Association and the African Methodist Episcopal Church are partnering to raise awareness of Alzheimer's disease within the African American community. By working together, we can provide opportunities for all those affected to access care and support services, engage in research and advance advocacy.

Currently, more than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease, and over 11 million are serving as unpaid caregivers. African Americans face additional obstacles: They are twice as likely to develop Alzheimer's disease as White Americans, and they may be more likely to be diagnosed in the later stages of the disease due to lack of access to insurance and affordable health care.

Recognizing this increased risk, the Association and AME are working together to engage the church's network of 2.5 million members. AME is one of the largest Methodist denominations in the world and has persistently advocated for the civil and human rights of African Americans through social improvement, religious autonomy and political engagement since its founding in 1816.

Together, the Alzheimer's Association and AME will focus on:

  • Increasing concern and awareness of Alzheimer's disease within AME's community.
  • Providing care and support resources, volunteer engagement and education to AME members.
  • Expanding research and scientific support opportunities for AME's leadership and congregants.
  • Taking advocacy actions on state and federal issues that affect AME members.
  • Encouraging participation in community engagement efforts through Association events, including Walk to End Alzheimer's and The Longest Day.
